A Webinar on the topic “Gems of Ramanujan and their lasting impact on Mathematics” was organized by the department of Mathematics, Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College,
Bangalore and invited speaker S. Sridevi, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, V. R. Siddhartha Engineering college, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, On 22nd December 2021 at 2:00pm- 3:00 pm through the platform ‘Microsoft Teams’.
Sridevi made presentation on the topic ‘History of Srinivasa Ramanujan’ she explained how from ancient time mathematicians transferred their knowledge and the revolution in Education.
She explained how he got into mathematics field and his love towards the subject. And also, about Ramanujan’s theorems and there needful in other fields. She also solved few logical
problems using Ramanujan’s concepts. After that questions and interaction session was held in which speaker shared the information of competitive exam. The session was ended with the vote
of thanks with 75 students of different organisations from various states. E-Certificate were issued to all the participants.
Food Preservation – Skill Based Workshop – 10th March 2022
A skill based workshop was conducted for I MSc Nutrition and Dietetics students on the 8th, 9th and 10th of March 2022 by an eminent resource person Mr Srinivasa (Rtd), Food and Nutrition
Board, India. The students were introduced to a hand on experience of various recipes of Jams, jellies, chutneys, pickles and squashes. The workshop was conducted between 10 am and 3 pm.
On the 8th, the students were taught the procedure of making squashes, crushes and syrup. The recipes included – Orange squash, Grape crush, Lemon syrup, Fruit punch and comminuted
beverage.
On the 9 th, the students were taught the procedure of making jams, jellies and cheese. The recipes included – Mixed fruit jam, Papaya jam and Apple jam; Guava jelly, Guava cheese and
Tomato ketchup. For testing the setting point of jams various tests like Flake test, Cold Plate test, Spread test with the help of a refract meter were conducted. A food thermometer was used to
monitor the temperature for jams and jellies. Additionally, for jellies a Pectin test was carried out using surgical spirit.
On the last day, Chutneys and Pickles were prepared. The recipes included – sweet tomato chutney, hot onion chutney, garlic pickle and lemon peel pickle.
A sensory evaluation was carried out for all the recipes prepared using a 9 point Hedonic scale where the students took the role of semi trained panelists. A small quantity of each sample was
kept aside to calculate the shelf life with the help of a pH meter. The workshop was an exemplary experience for the students as it helped them garner a skill
which can equip them to take on the role of entrepreneurs in times ahead.

Workshop on “Advanced Research Methodology in Social Science” on 13th July, 2022
The Departments of Sociology and Economics organised an Intercollegiate Workshop on “Advanced Research Methodology in Social Science” on 13th July, 2022 from 10.00 am to 1.00pm in the Seminar
Hall. The Resource Person was Dr. Rajeev Kumaramkandath from Christ Deemed to be University, Bengaluru. He was recently selected for the Erasmus plus European union mobility programme. In 2021(online) and 2022 he was invited and delivered lectures at the University of Applied Sciences,
Wurzburg, Germany. The topics covered by the Resource person were: The difference between Methods and Methodology, Relevance of knowledge in present day and the significance of research, 19th century, Spirit
of Enlightenment, Positivism, Observation and Experimentation in Social Sciences, Interpretivism, Phenomenology, Ethnography. The presentation was insightful. It was followed by a question-and-answer
session. 185 students participated from various universities and colleges. After the vote of thanks the Workshop concluded.
Food Science Workshop
FOOD SCIENCE – 1 – 16th July 2022 -24 students of IIIBSC -ND&CHP attended the one day workshop to study Fermentation, Gelatinization, stages in sugar cookery and smoking
point of fats at IIPC -IIHM , Indiranagar, Bengaluru. Three faculty members also attended the workshop. Students were given certificates.
FOOD SCIENCE-2- 23 rd July 2022 -30 Students of II Semester BSC -NDCZ Students along with two faculty members attended the workshop at IIPC-IIHM. They studied
Fermentation, Gelatinization, stages in sugar cookery and smoking point of fats. Students were given certificates.

Food Preservation Workshop – 3rd March 2022
This workshop was arranged for I Semester Open Elective and IBA Students -45 students.
Mrs. Ashika Davidson, a faculty member of the Department was the Resource person, the making of a jam, jelly ,pickle and Squash was demonstrated as part of
the food preservation syllabus to create awareness and impart know how to students about preservatives . This was also conducted as an entrepreneurship activity.
Young Researchers’ Two-Day Writing Camp At The KFI Study Centre June 16&17th 2022 An Initiative Of The Ma English Studies Program Bishop Cotton
Women’s Christian College
On the 16th and 17th of June 2022, the MA English Studies program of the Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Post Graduate Centre, initiated the Young Researchers’
Writing Camp that engaged the final year students in a two-day camp at the KFI Study Centre, Kanakpura. The final year students worked on areas that would become
a part of their dissertations at the end of the semester. Having harnessed primary data from ethnographic studies that are in progress the students began analytical work
on their semi-structured interviews at the camp. This was done by means of peer reviews, individual sit-downs with their supervisor, oral presentations and mind
mapping exercises on day one. The evening on day one was spent in a group discussion with the KFI Study Centre faculty. The energetic group discussion
pertained to the question of “Judgment and Evaluation”. It was a discussion that the students were able to relate to both as researchers and as young women in higher
education. Day two was spent in guided chapterization, which involved the finalizing of topic statements, literature reviews that were relevant to each chapter and
segregating data collected in terms of its pertinence to each chapter. The camp was a hands-on application level experience that put to the test the course on Critical
Enquiry and Research Methods taught in the 3rd semester of MA English Studies. The young scholars returned with renewed energy and motivation to bring their minds
and skills to research and writing that would impact the world positively.

• One-day seminar on “Demonetisation – Opportunities and Challenges“ was organized by the department of Commerce, Management Studies and Economics on 14th February 2017.Faculty and students from 10 Colleges participated in the seminar. Dr Satya Prasad delivered the key note address. Prof. M.M. Gupta and Prof.Augustine Amaldas conducted the Technical Sessions and Dr Mahananda and Mr. Anil B were the panellists. The seminar aimed at discussing the opportunities and challenges of demonetisation on eradicating corruption, inflation, investment and employment.
• The Department of Mathematics conducted a two-day Science Academies Lecture Workshop on “Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations “on 23rd and 24th September 2016.Eminent Mathematicians Prof. A.K. Nandakumaran from the Indian Institute of Science and Prof. Pradeep S Siddeshwar and Dr Kanchana of Bangalore University delivered the lectures in the meeting. Faculties and students from different colleges attended the workshop. The meeting was wholly and generously supported by the Indian Academy of Science, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy, Delhi and National Academy of Sciences Allahabad.

An Inter Disciplinary Science Academies Lecture Workshop titled “Advances in Plant and Biomedical Sciences” in association with Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy, Delhi and The National Academy of Sciences, India, Allahabad, was organized by the Department of Chemistry, Botany and Biotechnology on the 10th and 11th of March 2016. The topics included were – Microbial Inoculants and Plant Productivity, Structure – Activity Relationships in Metal Based Anti-Cancer Drugs, Understanding Cancer Biology: Basic Enigmas and Prospects, Challenges in Developing Magic Bullets for Cancer, Medicinal Plants in India: Prospects and Problem, Oral Sub – Mucous Fibrosis; Etiology and Mechanism, Trends in Aromatic Plant Research and their processing, and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi in Sustainable Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry.
A Workshop on the topic “Corporate Grooming for Women” was organized by the Department of Commerce and was conducted by Image Consulting Business Institute for final year BCOM students. The Workshop included topics on sensible dressing according to the corporate culture.
